Here’s my favorite kinda client: Steamin’ Willie Beamen. (You’ve seen Any Given Sunday, right?)
I’ve had many SWB’s over the years—men and women, young and old.
They’re stubborn and easily pissed off, but unlike the character in Any Given Sunday they take full responsibility for their state of affairs.
They send me weekly updates with messages like:
“I can’t believe I let my diet fall apart so bad. Unacceptable.”
“I drank half a bottle of wine every night last week. I’m better than this.”
“I had my meals prepped and I grabbed take out for dinner instead. So weak.”
I love it.
I don’t pat them on the head and say “awwww, there there.” I want them to acknowledge and feel their disappointment and know that I get where they’re coming from.
Especially when we both know they can do better.
I guess I have a soft spot for this type of person cause it’s how I still am.
I know what I’m capable of. I know I have the tools to nail the daily processes that lead to success.
And you do too. None are that hard. You don’t even have to be all that bright.
They just require a little discipline, time management, and above all, high standards. The type that lead you to get a little pissed off when you fail to reach them.
When you fail yourself.
It’s not about setting an unrealistically high bar and then stewing in self loathing.
It’s knowing what you want and what you’re capable of doing. Then letting your behaviour reflect your commitment.
And if you happen to stumble or fall flat? Get back up with even greater focus. And yeah, maybe even a little well-channeled anger.
