There’s an old expression: Fat loss is simple. Just not easy.
Co-coach Scott Tousignant and I don’t think truer words have ever been spoken.
Fat loss boils down to a handful of physiological factors, with “maintaining a calorie deficit” being the big kahuna.
Add to that “regular exercise including resistance training” and “eat sufficient protein” and you’ve moved most of the big rocks.
But when you look around the fitness industry, you see folks trying to make it incredibly complicated.
They gnash teeth over meal timing, the “best” combination of macros, whether to cycle carbs or calories or just fast. And then there’s what kind of cardio to do, and how much, and when.
It’s enough to get even experienced coaches confused.
The things that NEED to happen in order to change your body may be simple (and admittedly boring), but they’re not easy to do consistently, accurately, or for months on end.
That’s really damn hard, and most folks can’t hack it.
And guess who “flames out” first?
- Those who “gloss” over the boring but big rocks in favor of what’s cool or controversial.
- Those who focus too much on the end goal and not enough on executing what we call the daily process – which is the heart and soul of what we do in the Physique Mastery Movement group coaching experience.
Because we’ve been “that guy” – the type who focuses on the wrong things, like peri-workout nutrition or when we’re going to resemble the “after picture” – and we know it rarely leads to success.
What does lead to success?
Learning to execute the daily process as easily and consistently as you can. Which boils down to:
1.) Identifying the key components of the daily process (healthy meal prep, set meal times, fast clean-up, regular exercises, and getting enough sleep) and becoming EXCELLENT at them, while ignoring most everything else.
2.) Creating a structured day that allows the above to be done consistently and without much thought or mental energy. This requires a little bit of discipline and a whole lot of keeping it simple.
Of course, we still enjoy discussing the finer nuances of weight training and nutrition. We just know they pale in importance to the daily process.
Because if you “nail” the daily process, you WILL succeed. Guaranteed.
